Cylinder Boring, Cylinder Sleeving & Cylinder ReSleeving
Cylinder boring & resleeving is by far one of our strongest specialty services. We have been boring and resleeving outboard engines motorcycles, atv's, powersport and personal watercraft engines for over 30 years and recieve cylinder boring and cylinder resleeving jobs from all over the United States and even a few internationally. Using specialized tools and methods we have perfected the machining process with tolerances as small as .0005 (1/2 of 1/1000 of 1 inch) of factory bore specifications.
Outboard Engine Cylinder Boring (Blind Hole Boring):
An engine only has so many hours of use before the cylinders become worn or "out of round" and the cylinder walls may become scratched. This will cause your rings to improperly seal, and usually causes low compression, loss of performance and sometimes even engine seizure. These conditions call for cylinder boring.
We have found that many outboard engine owners don't even know that this term exists because blind hole boring (in outboard engines) is such a specialized process that many mechanics or dealers would rather just sell you a new powerhead. There are many reasons for this, but usually the reason ranges between the shop not having the tooling and expertise and wanting to make more money on the sale of a new powerhead.
Cylinder Boring: 2-Stroke and 4-Stroke Engines
Lathes are a NO-NO!
We can help measure your cylinders and help you determine what parts are needed for your engine rebuild project. Once we know the sizes and what is needed, we can get the parts on the way to keep your rebuild moving along. Give us a call or stop in!Cylinder Sleeving (Re-Sleeving) Services:
There is no reason to throw out those costly cylinders when they can't be bored out any more or the plated liner has been damaged, scored, or the skirt is broken. Typically these cylinders can be
re-sleeved for half the price of a new cylinder or having the cylinder rechromed.
Once the cylinder has been resleeved and bored to piston specifications, we blend and chamfer all ports, hone the cylinder to exact size, and inspect.
